Introducing the inaugural BMRC Fellows' Fall Speaker Series!!
Our 2023 Fellowship cohort will present their research and engage in conversation with a discussant during one-hour sessions that are scheduled weekly from October 6 through December 8, 2023. Twelve scholars and writers who recently completed their summer research residency here in Chicago are ready to share what they've uncovered. The scope of their research interest is wide as they come from a variety of disciplines--including architecture, American history, music history & theory, education, English, library & information science, linguistics, and journalism. BMRC funds their research which affords fellows concentrated time to peruse archival collections at multiple BMRC repositories over four weeks in the summer. Fellows compete for limited fellowships which begins with an online application process and are reviewed and selected by a jury primarily based upon the quality of their proposal and plan for original research focused on an aspect of history, culture, and experiences of Black Chicagoans. The specific subject matter they have chosen is reflected in the titles and abstracts of their research proposals which you are encouraged to review. Read the Fellows' Research Summaries.

NOTE:
Each session will feature a fellow as the primary speaker and a selected discussant who is familiar with the fellows' chosen research path and current project.
